Text to CSV

A text to CSV converter turns free-form lines, tab-separated text, or loosely comma-separated paste into a proper CSV table. This page splits lines in your browser, quotes fields when needed, and lets you pick the output delimiter. Nothing is uploaded or written to localStorage. It is not an Excel/.xlsx reader and not a merge-PDF tool.

How does the Text to CSV work?

    Free-form lines, TSV, or comma-separated paste works. Dropped .txt / .csv / .tsv files are read with FileReader in this tab — never uploaded.

  2. 2. Choose split mode and delimiter

    Auto detects tabs, then commas, then semicolons per line; or force one separator; or treat each whole line as one column. Output delimiter is comma, tab, or semicolon.

  3. 3. Convert locally

    Rows are built in this tab with RFC-style quoting via stringifyCsv. Optional Add header row prepends column1…. Split errors show beside the input — nothing is sent to a server.

  4. 4. Copy or download

    Copy the CSV or download .csv. Closing the tab drops the buffer.

Questions about Text to CSV

Does Text to CSV upload my file?
No. Splitting and conversion run in your browser. There is no account and no server-side converter. Dropped files are read with FileReader in this tab; we do not upload them to Page Utils or write them to localStorage. Closing the tab drops the buffer.
What does Split on mean?
Split on controls how each input line becomes columns. Auto looks for tabs first, then commas, then semicolons; otherwise the whole line stays one cell. You can also force comma, tab, semicolon, or whole-line mode. The output delimiter is separate — it is the character used when writing the CSV.
What does Add header row do?
When Add header row is on, the converter prepends column1, column2, … to match the widest row. Use it for data-only pastes that need a header. If your first line is already a header, leave the checkbox off so you do not invent a second header. Conversion stays in this tab; nothing is uploaded.
How is this different from CSV to JSON or JSON to CSV?
Text to CSV starts from free-form or loosely delimited text and writes CSV. CSV to JSON (/file-conversion/csv-to-json/) turns an existing CSV table into pretty JSON. JSON to CSV (/file-conversion/json-to-csv/) flattens JSON objects into CSV and still toggles CSV→JSON for convenience. All three run only in the browser.
Is there an /in/ version for India?
No. The same /file-conversion/text-to-csv/ URL works globally, including from India. We do not duplicate tools under a country prefix. SAMPLE examples may use Indian city names and fake INR amounts; the converter itself is format-agnostic.
Can I convert Excel (.xlsx) files here?
This page does not read .xlsx — it accepts plain text, CSV, and TSV as paste or drop. Once your text is CSV, CSV to Excel at /file-conversion/csv-to-excel/ turns it into a real .xlsx workbook in your browser. Reading existing .xlsx files is not supported on the hub yet — we do not leave stub URLs that 404.
What happens if quotes are unclosed?
You get a short error next to the input and the CSV stays empty. The page does not invent missing quotes or pad ragged guesses beyond aligning shorter rows with empty cells when a split succeeds. Fix the paste and try again — conversion stays in this tab and nothing is uploaded.
Is there a merge-PDF or file-join tool here?
No. This page only converts free-form text or TSV into CSV in your browser. It does not merge PDFs, join files, or open Excel/.xlsx. When those converters ship they appear on the file-conversion hub and in the sitemap — we do not leave stub URLs that 404.

What else can I open?

These tools run in your browser. Page Utils does not store, upload, or write to localStorage the keys, tokens, or text you paste. Results are a convenience aid, not legal, tax, or security advice.
