CSV to Excel

A CSV to Excel converter turns a comma, tab, semicolon, or pipe-delimited table into a genuine .xlsx workbook you can open in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, or Numbers. This one builds the Office Open XML file in your browser tab — the CSV is never uploaded or written to localStorage. Leading zeros, phone numbers, and long IDs stay as text, and cells that start with = are stored as text rather than run as formulas.

Updated

Paste CSV or drop a .csv / .tsv file, let the page auto-detect the delimiter (or pick comma, tab, semicolon, or pipe), check the preview, then press Download .xlsx. The workbook has one sheet, a bold frozen first row, column widths sized to your data, and plain numbers stored as numbers. Turn number detection off to keep every cell exactly as typed. Unclosed quotes get an honest in-page error instead of a half-built file.

Double-clicking a CSV in Excel often strips leading zeros (PIN 007 becomes 7), turns long IDs into 1.23E+15, and can mangle UTF-8 accents or Indian-language text. Writing a real .xlsx avoids those import guesses. One canonical URL with a trailing slash and no /in/ prefix; India-first SAMPLE examples use city names, PIN codes, and fake INR amounts, and the page works the same globally.

CSV → Excel (.xlsx)

Paste CSV, TSV, semicolon, or pipe-delimited text, or drop a .csv file — it is read in this tab and never uploaded.

Optional .csv / .tsv drop. Read with FileReader — never uploaded.

How does the CSV to Excel work?

  1. 1. Paste or drop CSV

Paste a delimited table or drop a .csv, .tsv, or .txt file. FileReader reads it in this tab — nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2. Check delimiter and preview

Auto-detect picks comma, tab, semicolon, or pipe from the first lines; override it if needed. The preview shows the first 10 rows as Excel will see them.

  3. 3. Choose header and number options

Bold + freeze first row is on by default. Plain numbers become numeric cells; leading zeros, + phone numbers, IDs over 15 digits, and formulas stay text. Untick number detection to keep every cell as text.

  4. 4. Download .xlsx

The page writes a one-sheet Office Open XML workbook in memory and saves it with your file name. Closing the tab drops the data.

Questions about CSV to Excel

How do I convert CSV to Excel?
Paste your CSV into the box (or drop a .csv file), confirm the detected delimiter in the preview, and press Download .xlsx. The page builds a real Excel workbook in this browser tab and saves it to your device — no account, no email, no upload. Open the file in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, or Numbers.
Is the download a real .xlsx file or a renamed CSV?
A real .xlsx. The page writes the Office Open XML parts Excel expects — [Content_Types].xml, the workbook, a styles part, and one worksheet — and packs them into a standard ZIP, so Excel opens it without the "file format and extension don't match" warning. It is generated by in-page JavaScript with no server and no third-party spreadsheet library.
Does CSV to Excel upload my file?
No. Parsing and the .xlsx build both run in your browser. Dropped files are read with FileReader in this tab; we do not upload them to Page Utils, send them to a conversion API, or write them to localStorage. Closing the tab drops the data. Hosting logs may show that you loaded the page, not the table you converted.
Will leading zeros, PIN codes, and phone numbers survive?
Yes. Only plain decimal numbers such as 100000 or -5.25 become numeric cells. Values with leading zeros (007, 0123), a + sign (+919876543210), more than 15 digits (long account or card-style IDs), spaces, or letters are stored as text, so Excel does not drop zeros or show 1.23E+15. Untick "Store plain numbers as numbers" to keep every cell as text.
Which delimiters does it support?
Comma, tab (TSV), semicolon (common in European exports where the comma is the decimal mark), and pipe. Auto-detect looks at the first lines and picks the delimiter that splits them into the most consistent columns; you can override it from the Delimiter menu. Quoted fields with commas, doubled "" quotes, and line breaks inside quotes stay in one cell.
What happens to cells that start with = or contain formulas?
They are stored as text, not formulas. A cell like =SUM(A1:A2) or =HYPERLINK(...) shows exactly as typed and does not run when you open the workbook, which avoids CSV formula injection surprises. If you want a formula to calculate, retype it in Excel after opening.
Are there size or row limits?
Excel allows 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet and 32,767 characters per cell; the page refuses files over the row or column limit and tells you if it had to cut an over-long cell. In practice the browser is the bigger limit — the page is designed for CSVs up to roughly 10 MB or 50,000+ rows, and the .xlsx is uncompressed, so it is usually larger than the CSV. Split very large files first.
Does it convert dates, or support multiple sheets?
No. Dates are kept as the text you typed (for example 07/10/2026), because guessing day-first versus month-first silently would change your data; use Excel's Text to Columns or DATEVALUE after opening if you need real date cells. Each download is one sheet named after your file. To read an existing workbook, use /file-conversion/excel-to-csv/; it exports one selected sheet at a time.

These tools run in your browser. Page Utils does not store, upload, or write to localStorage the keys, tokens, or text you paste. Results are a convenience aid, not legal, tax, or security advice.
