CSV to JSON

A CSV to JSON converter turns a delimited table into a pretty-printed JSON array. This one parses in your browser with FileReader — nothing is uploaded or written to localStorage. With header row on, the first line becomes object keys; without it, rows stay as string arrays. It is a convenience converter for text CSV, not an Excel/.xlsx reader and not a merge-PDF tool.

Updated

Paste or drop a .csv file, pick comma, tab, or semicolon, convert to pretty JSON in this tab, then copy or download .json. Closing the tab drops the buffer. Invalid CSV (unclosed quotes, ragged columns) gets an honest in-page error instead of invented output.

One canonical URL with a trailing slash for the head keyword csv to json — there is no /in/ prefix. JSON → CSV (with a reverse toggle) lives at /file-conversion/json-to-csv/. India-first SAMPLE examples use city names and fake INR amounts; the same page works globally.

Optional .csv drop. Read with FileReader in this tab — never uploaded.

Need the other direction? JSON → CSV (with a reverse toggle) lives at /file-conversion/json-to-csv/. This URL is the dedicated landing for converting CSV to JSON.

How does the CSV to JSON work?

  1. 1. Paste or drop CSV

A delimited table works. Dropped .csv files are read with FileReader in this tab — never uploaded.

  2. 2. Choose delimiter and header

Comma is the default. Tab and semicolon are for TSV and EU-style CSV. With header row on, the first line becomes object keys.

  3. 3. Convert locally

Parsing runs in this tab. Output is pretty-printed JSON (two-space indent). Unclosed quotes or ragged rows show an error — nothing is sent to a server.

  4. 4. Copy or download

Copy the pretty JSON or download .json. Closing the tab drops the buffer.

Questions about CSV to JSON

Does CSV to JSON upload my file?
No. Parsing and conversion run in your browser. There is no account and no server-side converter. Dropped files are read with FileReader in this tab; we do not upload them to Page Utils or write them to localStorage. Closing the tab drops the buffer.
How do delimiter and header row affect the JSON?
Comma is the default delimiter; tab makes TSV and semicolon covers EU-style exports. With header row on, the first line becomes object keys and each later line becomes one object. With header off, each line becomes a JSON array of strings. Conversion stays in this tab; nothing is uploaded.
What happens if my CSV is invalid?
You get a short parse error next to the input and the JSON stays empty. Unclosed quoted fields and rows with different column counts are rejected rather than silently padded. Fix the CSV and paste again — conversion stays in this tab and nothing is uploaded.
How is this different from the CSV toggle on JSON to CSV?
JSON to CSV at /file-conversion/json-to-csv/ still toggles CSV → JSON for a quick reverse on that page. This URL (/file-conversion/csv-to-json/) is the dedicated landing for the head keyword csv to json. Both run only in the browser and do not upload your file.
Is there an /in/ version for India?
No. The same /file-conversion/csv-to-json/ URL works globally, including from India. We do not duplicate tools under a country prefix. SAMPLE examples may use Indian city names and fake INR amounts; the converter itself is format-agnostic.
Can I convert Excel (.xlsx) files here?
This page does not read .xlsx — it accepts text CSV (and TSV/semicolon tables) as paste or drop. To turn a CSV into an Excel workbook, use CSV to Excel at /file-conversion/csv-to-excel/, which writes a real .xlsx in your browser. Reading existing .xlsx files is not supported on the hub yet — we do not leave stub URLs that 404.
Is there a merge-PDF or file-join tool here?
No. This page only converts CSV to JSON. Unshipped converters are listed on the file-conversion hub when they go live, not as 404s.
Will this replace a database import tool?
No. It is a convenience converter for a table you can see in this tab. Quoting, encodings, and multi-megabyte files can still need a local CLI or spreadsheet. It will not talk to a database, validate a schema, or merge PDFs.

These tools run in your browser. Page Utils does not store, upload, or write to localStorage the keys, tokens, or text you paste. Results are a convenience aid, not legal, tax, or security advice.
