PPF Calculator
A PPF calculator estimates Public Provident Fund maturity from an annual rupee deposit, the years you choose, and a rate you type. It uses a transparent yearly compound approximation with a year-by-year table in your browser so you can audit each step — an educational check, not a passbook, SEBI advice, or scraped live rate.
Rates are user-entered. Page Utils does not scrape Ministry of Finance small-savings tables or National Savings Institute notices. Copy the percent from the circular that applies to the quarter you are checking, then run the educational model here. Dated illustration only: MoF small-savings Q2 FY2026-27 (1 July–30 September 2026) kept PPF at 7.1% p.a., in line with the unchanged-from-prior-quarter notice around 30 June 2026 (same style of SB Order / DEA memo as prior quarters). Circulars change — confirm before you act. The example rate default on this page is 7.1 for that illustration.
How this page models PPF (read before you trust the table): real PPF interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and month-end, then credited yearly. For education, this calculator uses an annual-deposit approximation: each year’s full deposit is treated as if it earns for that year (beginning-of-year / before-5th simplification), then interest compounds once per year. The table shows opening balance, deposit, interest, and closing balance. Maturity is the final closing balance; total deposits and total interest are shown beside it. This is not a passbook replacement. Extensions after 15 years, partial withdrawals, and tax treatment depend on current law — not advice.
How does the PPF Calculator work?
1. Enter the annual deposit in rupees
Type the amount you would put in per financial year. PPF rules use a minimum of ₹500 and a maximum of ₹1,50,000 per FY. The example loads ₹1,50,000. Nothing is uploaded.
2. Type the annual rate yourself
The percent is user-entered, not scraped. Copy it from the MoF / National Savings circular for the quarter you are checking. The dated illustration on this page uses 7.1% p.a. for Q2 FY2026-27 (1 Jul–30 Sep 2026); confirm the circular yourself.
3. Choose how many years to project
Default is 15 years (classic PPF lock-in). You can set 1–50 years for sensitivity. Longer projections still use the same simplified annual model and do not automatically model post-15-year extensions.
4. Read the year-by-year table and copy the result
Each row shows opening, deposit, interest, and closing. Maturity is the final closing amount. Treat the output as a local educational check, then confirm with the issuer and current law.
Questions about PPF Calculator
- Does this PPF calculator use live government interest rates?
- No. The annual interest rate is a figure you type, not a scrape of MoF small-savings or National Savings tables. Copy the percent from the circular that applies to your account. As a dated illustration only: MoF small-savings Q2 FY2026-27 (1 July–30 September 2026) kept PPF at 7.1% p.a., matching the unchanged-from-prior-quarter notice around 30 June 2026. Those circulars change. Update the percent yourself; this page will not notice a rate change on its own.
- Is the maturity figure an official PPF passbook amount?
- No. It is an educational approximation. Real PPF credits interest monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and month-end. This page treats each full annual deposit as earning for the year and compounds yearly so the arithmetic is easy to audit. If the number here disagrees with your passbook or bank statement, trust the issuer. Use the result to understand the shape of compounding, not as a quote.
- How does the educational PPF model compound interest?
- For each year: interest = (opening balance + that year’s deposit) × (annual rate ÷ 100). Closing balance = opening + deposit + interest. The next year starts with that closing balance. Maturity is the final closing balance after the years you chose. Total deposits are annual deposit × years; total interest is maturity minus total deposits. Amounts are formatted in Indian rupees (en-IN).
- What deposit limits does this PPF calculator enforce?
- The form accepts annual deposits from ₹500 to ₹1,50,000 per financial year, matching common PPF contribution bounds used for education on this page. Amounts outside that range are rejected with a clear error. Split deposits across months are not modelled — enter one annual total for the simplified check.
- Can I project more or fewer than 15 years?
- Yes. Default tenure is 15 years. You may enter any whole number from 1 to 50. Longer runs still use the same annual approximation. Real accounts may allow extensions after 15 years under rules that change over time; this widget does not model every extension option automatically.
- Do you store the deposit amounts I type?
- No. The calculator runs in your browser. Closing the tab drops the numbers. We do not write deposit, rate, or years to localStorage, and we do not upload them to Page Utils. Hosting logs may show that you opened this URL; they do not contain the rupee amounts from the form.
- Is this SEBI advice or a return promise?
- No. Page Utils is education-only on money pages. The PPF calculator explains how a simplified annual model works. It does not recommend PPF over other products, promise returns, or give securities tips. Tax treatment (EEE or otherwise) depends on current law — confirm with a qualified professional and the issuer before you act.
- Where can I open or manage a PPF account after using the calculator?
- Use the Where to open box on this page for India Post, National Savings (NSI), and India Post Payments Bank public pages. Partner links, when configured via environment variables, are labelled as partner links; otherwise you get official pages with no tracking ID from us. We may earn a commission if you use a partner link. Opening an account still happens on the issuer’s site or at a post office / bank, not inside this calculator.
