Post Office FD Calculator

A post office FD calculator estimates time-deposit maturity from principal, the annual rate you type, and tenure. This one compounds in your browser with A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t); it is a check, not an India Post quote.

Rates are user-entered. Page Utils does not scrape India Post or National Savings tables, and it does not notice when a circular changes. Copy the percent from the POSB or National Savings order that applies to your deposit, then run the compound check here. Quarterly compounding (n = 4) is the default, which matches how many Post Office time deposits are described; switch to monthly (n = 12) or yearly (n = 1) only as a sensitivity check. Interest shown is maturity minus principal, formatted in Indian rupees.

Worked example, dated 30 June 2026: India Post SB Order 07/2026 circulated that small-savings rates for 1 July–30 September 2026 stay unchanged from the previous quarter. Public summaries of that quarter list the 5-year Post Office Time Deposit at 7.5% p.a., compounded quarterly. For ₹1,00,000 at 7.5% p.a. over five years with quarterly compounding, A = 1,00,000 × (1 + 0.075/4)^(4×5) ≈ ₹1,44,994.80 (interest ≈ ₹44,994.80). Treat that figure as an illustration of the formula on this page — confirm the circular before you invest.

Deposit check

Amount in rupees. Example default is ₹1,00,000.

User-entered percent from the circular you are checking — not a live scrape.

Use years or months. Five years is 60 months.

Tenure unit

Quarterly is typical for many time deposits.

India Post publishes current Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) and National Savings time-deposit schemes separately. Confirm the circular that applies to your account before you invest.

Maturity amount

₹1,41,477.82

Interest

₹41,477.82

A = P × (1 + r / n)n × t with n = 4 and t = 5 years. Output is a local check, not a quote from the issuer.

How does the Post Office FD Calculator work?

  1. 1. Enter principal in rupees

Type the amount you would place in a time deposit. The field is a number input with a ₹1,00,000 example. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2. Type the annual rate yourself

The percent is user-entered, not scraped from India Post. Copy the figure from the POSB or National Savings circular that applies to you — for example the rate in force under SB Order 07/2026 for July–September 2026, if that is the quarter you are checking.

  3. 3. Set tenure and compounding

Choose years or months. Quarterly compounding is the default, typical for many Post Office time deposits. Switch to monthly or yearly as a sensitivity check.

  4. 4. Read maturity and copy the result

The page computes A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t) locally and shows interest as maturity minus principal, formatted in Indian rupees. Treat it as a check, not a quote from India Post.

Questions about Post Office FD Calculator

Does this post office FD calculator use live India Post rates?
No. The annual interest rate is a figure you type, not a scrape of India Post or National Savings tables. Copy the percent from the POSB or National Savings circular that applies to your deposit, then run the compound check on this page. As a dated illustration only: India Post SB Order 07/2026 (30 June 2026) said rates for 1 July–30 September 2026 stay unchanged from the previous quarter; public summaries of that quarter list the 5-year time deposit at 7.5% p.a. Those circulars change. Treat the maturity amount as a local estimate, not a quote from a post office counter.
Is the maturity figure an official India Post quote?
No. It is a local compound-interest check. Payout rules, TDS, premature-closure penalties, and scheme-specific rounding can differ from this page. The account document and the latest India Post circular are the source of truth. Use the result to sanity-check an illustration, then confirm with the post office or the scheme rules before you invest.
How does the post office FD calculator compound interest?
Maturity is P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t). n is 4 for quarterly (the default), 12 for monthly, or 1 for yearly. t is tenure in years; if you switch the unit to months, the value is divided by 12. The annual rate r is the percent you typed, divided by 100. Output is formatted in Indian rupees (en-IN) and rounded to paise for display.
Can I enter tenure in months?
Yes. Switch the tenure unit to months. Five years is 60 months; a 12-month deposit is one year. The calculator converts months to years before it compounds, so a 60-month run matches a 5-year run at the same rate and principal. Use months when the circular describes the scheme that way; the formula does not change.
Do you store the principal I type?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. Closing the tab drops the numbers. We do not write principal, rate, or tenure to localStorage, and we do not upload them to Page Utils. Hosting logs may show that you opened this URL; they do not contain the rupee amounts from the form.
What is POSB versus National Savings on this page?
Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) and National Savings instruments are offered through India Post. This page models a generic fixed-tenure compound deposit. Match the rate and compounding to the specific scheme you hold or plan to open — a time deposit, a different savings instrument, and a bank FD are not the same product. The labels here are for the check, not a complete catalogue of India Post schemes.
Where do I open a Post Office FD after using the calculator?
Use the Where to open box on this page for India Post and related public options. Partner links, when configured, are labelled as partner links; otherwise you get official pages with no tracking ID from us. We may earn a commission if you use a partner link. Opening an account still happens on the issuer’s site or at a post office, not inside this calculator.
Will this calculator replace an India Post passbook?
No. It is a convenience estimate. The passbook, receipt, or electronic account document and the latest India Post circular remain the source of truth. If the number on this page disagrees with the issuer, trust the issuer. Use the copy-result control if you want to keep a note of the inputs you checked.

These tools run in your browser. Page Utils does not store, upload, or write to localStorage the keys, tokens, or text you paste. Results are a convenience aid, not legal, tax, or security advice.
